Billericay Town V Chelmsford City FC, Pre-Season Friendly, New Lodge, Tuesday 16th July 2024, 7:45pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City’s pre-season campaign resumes this evening with a trip across Essex to face local rivals Billericay Town.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Opposition:

Billericay Town ended the 2023-24 campaign in fine form, registering six wins from their final six league matches in the Isthmian League Premier Division. These strong showings were not enough to push Gary McCann’s side into the play-off places at the end of the season though; the Blues came up three points short of securing a top five finish, which would have put them in the play-off mix to earn promotion back to the National League South.

The Blues’ preparations to go one better this time around, and secure promotion from what will be their third season playing in Step 3 of the Non-League Football pyramid, are already well underway. Gary McCann’s side have already completed three friendlies ahead of the beginning of the new season next month, going unbeaten in their pre-season campaign up until now.

McCann’s men have registered wins over Hutton and Brightlingsea Regent in addition to a draw against our National League South rivals Aveley. Like Clarets boss Robbie Simpson has done in pre-season so far, Blues manager McCann utilised a mixture of current Billericay Town players and trialists against Aveley during his side’s most recent friendly.

Team News:

Robbie Simpson will use Tuesday’s game as another opportunity to get minutes in his players’ legs, as preparations for next month’s National League South curtain-raiser against Slough Town continue to be ramped up.

Ticket prices for Tuesday’s match are as follows:
