Torquay United v Chelmsford City, National League South, Plainmoor, Saturday 2nd November 2024, 3:00pm kick-off.
Chelmsford City travel 250-miles south this weekend to take on Torquay United at Plainmoor, looking to extend an unbeaten away run in the National League South which goes back to the end of August.

Opposition:
Torquay United experienced a challenging season on and off the pitch during 2023-24. The Gulls’ first year back in the National League South was marred by a battle at the bottom end of the league table, partly brought on by the club being met with a 10-point deduction in March after the Devon-based side submitted its intention to appoint administrators.
After achieving National League South survival, Torquay’s future was stabilised in May when the Bryn Consortium of local businesspeople took control of the club. As part of the club’s new structure, management veteran Neil Warnock was appointed as a non-executive director and football advisor at Plainmoor. Paul Wooton, who Warnock managed as a player at Plymouth Argyle, also arrived at the club in May, taking up the role of Head Coach at Plainmoor after successfully guiding Truro City to safety in their first season back in the sixth tier.

Under the guidance of Warnock and Wooton, the Gulls have enjoyed a good 24-25 season so far, and find themselves in the mix at the top end of the table heading into the month of November. Wooton’s side are 5th in the standings and have won seven of their 13 league games this campaign. They are undefeated at Plainmoor this season, having completed six home matches in front of an average crowd of 3,457 per game.
Torquay further strengthened their promotion aspirations earlier this week when the club confirmed the signing of Jordan Young from Yeovil Town for an undisclosed fee. Forward Young scored 16 goals in 47 outings during Yeovil’s promotion-winning 23-24 season and was also named in the National League South Team of the Season.
