Bath City v Chelmsford City, National League South, Twerton Park, Tuesday 4th February 2025, 7:45pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City make their second journey in less than a month to Bath City to take on the Romans at Twerton Park.

City travelled to Somerset at the beginning of January 11th, but their clash against Darren Way’s side was called off at the eleventh hour due to an area of the pitch at Twerton Park being frozen.

Now travelling back to Bath once again, Simpson’s side will hope to make the 350+ mile round trip worthwhile by continuing their recent impressive record against the Romans.

Bath City will present a tough test for the Clarets having shown improvement in new manager Darren Way’s first six games at the helm. Although, like City, the Romans have struggled to turn draws into wins of late, having played out stalemates in their last three fixtures.

Here’s everything Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team and match stats:

  • Bath City are the second lowest scorers in the National League South this season, having netted 24 goals.
  • The Clarets have won six of their last seven games against this weekend’s opponents.
  • The Romans’ last home league win over City came in 2018.

Opposition:

The Romans have been a tough nut to crack as of late, and come into Tuesday’s game on the back of a run which has seen them lose just once in their last seven National League South games.

This upturn in form has lifted the Romans to 19th in the league standings, eight points clear of the drop zone. Their recent resilient run of form has coincided with the appointment of Darren Way as the club’s new manager. Way was appointed two days before Christmas and won his first two games in charge of the club. He has gone winless since then but has continued to make his side hard to beat.

Way replaced the long-serving Jerry Gill as the Romans’ permanent manager after Gill and the Somerset club parted ways at the end of November. The bulk of Gill’s squad has continued at Twerton Park and is awash with several familiar faces to the National League South. The likes of Kieran Parselle, Danny Greenslade and Scott Wilson have all remained regulars in Black and White under Way.

Forward Wilson is his side’s top scorer this season. The 31-year-old has found the back of the net seven times so far this campaign. Three of Wilson’s goals have come since Way appointment. Wilson’s fellow attacker, Jordan Alves, has also come into good form under Way, having scored two goals in his last three appearances.

Team news:

Jordan Greenidge begins a suspension following his red card against Maidstone United last week.

Nico Valentine will be pushing to make his first Chelmsford City start after debuting from the bench on Saturday against Chesham United, having signed on loan from Ipswich Town ahead last weekend’s game.
