Chelmsford City v St Albans City, National League South, EMJ Community Stadium, Monday 10th March 2025, 7:45pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City welcome St Albans City to the EMJ Community Stadium on Monday night in both sides’ second fixture in just over the space of 48 hours.

The teams will look to build on the draws they picked up in Saturday’s round of fixtures, with wins both managers needing an important win for different reasons.

Three points could move City up to 10th in the league standings, while the Saints can climb out of the league’s relegation places for the first time since August should they pick up a win in Essex.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team and match stats:

  • St Albans City are 10th in the National League South form table for the last eight games. The Saints have collected 12 points – one more than City have in this run.
  • No team in the division has drawn more away games this season (nine draws) than St Albans have.
  • City’s last win over St Albans came in April 2022. Since then, the Saints have won four of the six competitive clashes between the sides.

Opposition:

New St Albans City manager Ian Culverhouse has made his side harder to beat and more resilient since taking the reins at Clarence Park in November. Culverhouse inherited a struggling team that was five points adrift of safety and 22nd in the National League South table. In the 18 league games Culverhouse has taken charge of since his arrival in Hertfordshire, St Albans have only lost five times and are now two points adrift of safety, with a game in hand over several of the sides above them in the table.

The Saints enjoyed a recent unbeaten run that spanned more than a month when they drew five and won two games across seven matches. Defeats against Hemel Hempstead Town and Boreham Wood ended that run, but recent 1-1 draws to Chippenham Town and Weymouth mean Culverhouse’s men come into Monday’s match unbeaten in the two games they have played so far in the month of March.

With the need to turn draws into wins growing as St Albans head into the business end of the season, Culverhouse may look to striker Shaun Jeffers to be the difference-maker for his men. Jeffers, who played at the EMJ Community Stadium over two stints between 2016 and 2020, has recorded eight goals against his former club in six appearances according to Transfermarkt. He registered an assist in the 1-1 draw between City and the Saints at Clarence Park earlier this season.

Another former Claret in the St Albans squad is Josh Castiglione, who was a key part of City’s record-breaking 23-24 National League South season. The versatile midfielder’s work rate and versatility impressed Clarets fans last season, and the former Hemel man’s performances have also endeared him to his latest club’s supporters. The 27-year-old has been a regular feature in the St Albans team this season.

Team news:

The Clarets’ squad will be assessed ahead of Monday’s match following the short turnaround from Saturday’s visit to Dorking.

Jake Hyde and Cameron James continued their recoveries from recent injuries by warming up with their teammates on Saturday and could be in contention to make returns against the Saints.
