Clarets Reserves’ Manager Marc Stephan felt his side’s performance was “excellent” in the 7-0 victory against Gas Recreation.
On Wednesday night, the City side hosted their Essex & Suffolk Border League counterparts at the EMG Inspire Stadium.
Under the lights, the Reserves put on a scintillating display in which five players got themselves on the scoresheet.
First to bag was Luke Deslandes, rifling home to open the scoring 12 minutes before Marc Holland added the second after rounding the Gas Rec goalkeeper.
Before the half came to a close, left-back Guy Norton found the back of the net.
In the second half, the Reserves continued their stellar performance with Alfie Gilbey scoring an eight-minute hat-trick.
The first came on 56 minutes, the second four minutes later and his final goal four minutes on from that in the 64th minute.
To complete the scoring, Freddie Hockey got himself on the scoresheet to round off an emphatic evening.
Speaking on the result and the performance, Stephan said: “That was an excellent performance; we didn’t expect that score at the end.
“It was probably one of the best sides that we’ve had, the squad as a whole, we could have had two or three more players that we couldn’t bring because of having a squad of 16.
“Everything was spot on tonight.”
A prevailing feature on the night was the use of tactics that are being implemented throughout Clarets sides, which also pleased the Reserves’ Manager.
He explained: “Robbie always asks after games, and I feed back to him. I spoke with him on Saturday ahead of the first-team game and you could tell that he was pleased.
“It’s good because we have the core players which play a lot, but there are also new players that come in and when we do everything that Robbie likes us to do, it’s not always easy having new players but tonight it was just perfect.
“The boys were hungry before kick-off, when they came in, they wanted this.”
The 7-0 victory also continues a run that has seen the side go unbeaten in six games, the last four of which have been won.
Stephan said: “I think everyone is getting a little bit surprised by us now.
“I get feedback from the Essex & Suffolk Border League committee and other clubs, everyone’s surprised but if we can maintain similar form in the run up to Christmas, we should do well in the league.
“I feel like we’re getting more consistency with game management and the players are really maturing as the season goes on.”
