Chelmsford City is delighted to announce that Ben Brookes has joined the club after leaving Isthmian North side Hashtag United.
Brookes, 21, played at West Ham and Chelsea in his youth, and has appeared for Tower Hamlets as well and also Isthmian North clubs Great Wakering Rovers and Basildon United before signing for Hashtag towards the end of last season. He is a versatile player who has played on the left side of midfield or defence and has also played in central midfield. He is also a set-piece specialist with his left foot and has scored goals from free-kicks and corners in his career.
Chelmsford City manager Robbie Simpson commented, “We were obviously in the market for a left-back and a number of options became available. Adam Drew did his usual great work for us in giving us some names and we had a look at Ben and his clips and he really fits the type of player we’re looking for. He’s young, hungry and wants to progress in football and show he can make the step up to this level and beyond.
He’s having a really good season for Hashtag, with loads of assists to his name. He’s also played in midfield which shows he’s got quality on the ball and also his versatility. We’ve spoken to him and he’s a really great lad and we’re really excited to get him involved with us ahead of our run-in until the end of the season.”
