Chelmsford City FC are delighted to confirm the signing of Midfielder, Samir Carruthers, following his departure from fellow National League South side Dartford
The 30-year-old made 36 appearances for Dartford last season amassing 10 Goals and 14 assists, landing him a spot in the Vanarama National League South Team of the Season. Carruthers has been in the National League South for a few seasons now as before joining Dartford, Carruthers had a spell with Hemel Hempstead Town in which he featured over 20 times. Beyond the National League South, Carruthers has experience across the English Football Pyramid having started his career with Arsenal before joining Aston Villa where he played in their ranks before breaking through and appearing in the Premier League. Samir’s experience also spans all 3 EFL Divisions with a combination of Cambridge United, Oxford United, Sheffield United and MK Dons, where he made just shy of 150 appearances for the latter across 4 Seasons. Carruthers also represented the Republic of Ireland at Youth International level where he won 5 caps for the U19s and 9 Caps for the U21s where he scored twice in games against the Faroe Islands in the Republic of Irelands UEFA EURO U21 Campaign.
Manager Robbie Simpson shared his thoughts on the signing of Samir Carruthers “I’ve known and spoken to Samir for a number of years now. Whenever we’ve played against him my focus as a defensive gameplan has always been about stopping him. Whoever he has played for he’s been the key to their attacking threat and creativity. More often than not, if you stop Samir you limit the opposition’s chances of scoring. That says it all in terms of how much I value him as a player, as a creative player. I think it speaks for itself that he was in the Team of the Year this year. He’s just a top player at this level.”
“We’ve been speaking for a couple of weeks now and I’m delighted to get it over the line and he’s going to be a massive signing for us. I just can’t wait to see him in a Claret shirt.”
