The National Champions of Champions U19 in 2022!
The Clarets’ Academy was launched in 2020 in partnership with Moulsham High School. The Academy plays a huge role in our Clarets10 Vision, ensuring all young footballers at the Club have a clear development pathway that maximises opportunities for progression.
Under the stewardship of Mickey Spillane, the Academy has enjoyed a hugely successful first two years on and off the field, winning the National Champions of Champions trophy in 2022 & twice reaching the second round proper of the FA Youth Cup.
On the football front, training sessions and matches are integrated with the academic timetable and, as part of the Chelmsford City Academy, players join a squad that participates in a fixture programme consisting of other National League Academies and the prestigious FA Youth Cup.

The Academy gives our young players the chance to follow in the footsteps of Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray, who joined the Premier League side from the Clarets, as well as working with ex-professionals and UEFA qualified coaches.

It’s certainly been a remarkable and memorable season for our Clarets Academy for the 2021/22 campaign!
These successes included:
- National League U19 Alliance Division A Champions
- National League U19 Alliance Champion of Champions Winners
- Reaching the second round of the FA Youth Cup (for the second year in a row)
- 3 first-team team debutants
- 42 first-team appearances
- An academy star winning our Goal of the Season
- 15+ players from last season progressing to our Clarets Reserves
- Multiple academy players training with the first team
