Chippenham Town v Chelmsford City, National League South, The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium, Saturday 5th April 2025, 3:00pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City head west to Wiltshire this weekend to face Chippenham Town.

Currently level on points and separated by one place in the National League South table, both sides will be hoping to gain the upper hand after a series of draws in recent encounters between the clubs.

Another stalemate this weekend would also see the Clarets and the Bluebirds draw for the second week in a row, after both teams shared the points in their respective clashes last week against Truro City and Enfield Town.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team and match stats:

  • The Bluebirds have scored 21 goals at home in the National League South this season – the joint lowest tally in the division.
  • Five of the previous six games between Chelmsford City and Chippenham Town have ended in draws.
  • Chippenham’s last home victory against City came in 2019.

Opposition:

Chippenham Town’s steady 2024-25 campaign has been consistent with the club’s performance since their promotion to the National League South nine years ago. The Bluebirds have been a mainstay in English football’s sixth tier since winning the Southern League Premier Division in 2016-17. They have finished in an average position of 13th in the standings during their current spell in the National League South – one place above where Gary Horgan’s men currently sit in the table.

Disappointing home form has contributed to Chippenham’s inability to lift themselves above mid-table this season. The Bluebirds have picked up only 41% of their points at home in 2024-25 and have only bettered Weymouth and already-relegated Aveley’s home records this campaign.

In terms of personnel, goalkeeper Will Henry and forward Matt McClure have continued to be pivotal figures for their side. Henry, who recently made his 200th Chippenham appearance, committed to extending his stay at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium by another season last month after signing a new one-year deal. After a brief spell on the sidelines due to injury, Henry returned to the starting XI in Chippenham’s last home game and marked his return with a clean sheet and Man of the Match performance in a 1-0 win against Weymouth.

Team news:

Freddie Hockey came off the bench last weekend to make his first appearance in more than three months after suffering a long-term injury in December.

Jazzi Barnum-Bobb will need to be assessed after picking up a knock while away on international duty recently.

Academy player Kennedy Mupomba made his National League South debut last weekend and will be hoping for further game time in Wiltshire.
