Chelmsford City FC V Chippenham Town, National League South, The EMJ Community Stadium, Monday 26th August 2024, 3pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City will look to collect their first National League South win of the 2024-25 season when they host Chippenham Town on Monday afternoon at the EMJ Community Stadium.

Robbie Simpson’s men were unable to build on back-to-back draws against Hampton & Richmond and Tonbridge Angels when they visited Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, falling to a 2-0 defeat in Somerset.

Gary Horgan’s Chippenham Town side travel to Essex looking to extend their current two-game unbeaten run. The Bluebirds recorded a 2-0 victory against Weymouth last Tuesday before holding Maidstone United to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team & match stats:

  • Chippenham Town have gone 225 minutes without conceding a goal in the National League South.
  • The Bluebirds’ last defeat the EMJ Community Stadium came in a 1-0 loss back in November 2018.
  • Chelmsford City are winless in their previous five clashes against Chippenham, with Simpson’s side last beating the Bluebirds in a 3-2 victory at The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium in September 2021.

Highlights of this victory against Chippenham Town can be seen in the video below.

Opposition:

Chippenham Town have been a mainstay in English football’s sixth tier since winning the Southern League Premier Division in 2016-17, finishing in an average position of 13th in the National League South standings during their current stint in the league. The Bluebirds have enjoyed a steady start to the club’s eighth consecutive campaign in the division, and will be hoping to push even further into the top half of the league standings this season.

Gary Horgan and his staff have kept together much of last season’s Bluebirds squad, carefully adding to it in the summer months as they look to improve upon their 12th place finish in 23-24. The Bluebirds have retained key figures, such as Will Henry and Matt McClure. Goalkeeper Henry’s performances have been a key factor behind the Bluebirds’ recent two-game unbeaten run. The 26-year-old has begun his third consecutive year at the club in good form, having kept clean sheets against Weymouth and Maidstone United during his last two outings. Forward McClure scored 11 National League South goals for the Bluebirds last season, but is still waiting to open his account for the 2024-25 season. Former Claret Tyreke Johnson is another player who Chippenham Town have retained for this season.

Chippenham Town goalkeeper Will Henry is a key and long-serving member of Gary Horgan's squad

In terms of new additions, Horgan secured the signature of winger Will Dawes in June, who played 22 times for last season’s National League South champions Yeovil Town. Dawes has had an encouraging start to life at The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium, scoring his opening goal in a Chippenham Town shirt during the Bluebirds’ first win of the season at Weymouth. Harry Parsons returned to the club during the summer months for a third stint in a Chippenham shirt, after playing for the Bluebirds as loanee in 21-22 and 22-23.

Team News:

Robbie Simpson will assess the fitness of all of his squad members ahead of Monday’s game, following the tight turnaround from Saturday’s visit to Weston-super-Mare.

Cameron James and Geofrey Okonkwo will remain sidelined.
