The club is pleased to confirm that, subject to regulatory approval, Spencer Gore via his Holding Company, Gorely Group Ltd will take over John Holmes’ majority shareholding in Chelmsford City Football Club. Dan Watkins will retain his 40% shareholding and will work with Spencer to take the club forward.
John Holmes commented “It has been a challenging few years and I believe we have created a strong foundation for the club but now it is for others to take it forward to the next level. Steve and I will continue to support the club and owners in whatever way we can and wish the club continued success in the future”.
Spencer Gore said “I am delighted to have the opportunity to develop Chelmsford City Football Club into the club I am convinced it can be. I am committed to taking the club forward and not only support Robbie and the first team but also continue the works with the Academy, broader club sections and the CCFC Foundation. I’m incredibly excited to have the chance to help the club and supporters achieve the success I believe it deserves. I will communicate more with the supporters on our plans once everything has been signed off by the relevant parties. I would like to place on record my thanks for all the work that John, Steve and Dan have put in over the years and their help in getting this transition over the line. ”
Dan Watkins commented “I remain as committed now as I was five years ago, when I began my ownership of the club, and as a fan first and foremost, I couldn’t be more excited for the next phase of our journey with Spencer and his team. I am also pleased to take full ownership of both the Clubhouse and the W20 business as part of this transaction, to allow us to consolidate all aspects of the football club.”
Spencer and Gorely Group now have to complete various Owners and Directors tests and other approvals before the takeover can be ratified but these are expected to be complete prior to the commencement of pre-season.
