Enfield Town v Chelmsford City, National League South, Dave Bryant Stadium, Saturday 4th January 2025, 3:00pm kick-off.
Chelmsford City hit the road for the first time in 2025 with a trip to the Dave Bryant Stadium to face Enfield Town, aiming to build on their back-to-back National League South victories on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
These wins extended City’s unbeaten run to three matches and moved the Clarets to within eight points of the congested top seven in the league table.
Gavin Macpherson’s Enfield Town side will be looking to secure their first win in more than three weeks as they play at their opening home game of 2025. Currently sitting at the bottom of the table, the Towners will be hungry to upset City and narrow the nine-point gap between themselves and safety from relegation.
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…
Team and match stats:
- Enfield Town have conceded 51 goals in the National League South this season – the highest in the division.
- This will be the first competitive meeting between the Clarets and the Towners in the National League South.
- Chelmsford City last faced Enfield Town competitively in the FA Cup during the 2021-22 season, winning 1-0 under Robbie Simpson.

Opposition:
Enfield Town earned promotion to the National League South last season after winning the Isthmian Premier Division play-off final against Chatham Town. However, the Towners have struggled to produce consistent results during their first-ever season at Step Two of Non-League football.
After collecting their first three points in the division during their second game, wins have been hard to come by for the North Londoners. Victories against Bath City and Weymouth at the end of September and the start of October have been followed by just one further win. As a result, the Towners currently sit bottom of the table ahead of Saturday’s clash.
Manager Gavin Macpherson will look to key man Sam Youngs to inspire his team in their battle to move off the foot of the table. Midfielder Youngs is approaching 300 appearances in a Towners shirt and contributed over 30 goals and assists during their promotion-winning 23-24 campaign. The 33-year-old is also the club’s top scorer this season, with six goals to his name.
Forward Jake Hutchinson follows Youngs in the scoring charts with three goals in the league. Hutchinson most recently scored a brace against Tonbridge Angels on December 12th, during Enfield’s last victory.
Team news:
Manager Robbie Simpson has rated captain Cameron James’ chances of playing this weekend as “50-50” after the defender missed the win over Aveley on New Year’s Day due to a back problem.
Forwards Jordan Greenidge and Freddie Hockey remain sidelined.
Loan players Woody Williamson, Osman Foyo and Alfie Bendle have returned to their parent clubs following the conclusion of their loan spells.
