Hampton & Richmond v Chelmsford City, National League South, Beveree Stadium, Saturday 14th December 2024, 3:00pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City return to National League South action for the first time in nearly two weeks when they travel to Middlesex to face Hampton & Richmond this weekend.

The Clarets will look to bounce back on Saturday after failing to build on their positive result against Slough Town at the end of November, suffering a frustrating 3-2 defeat to Boreham Wood last time out.

Alan Julian’s Hampton & Richmond side have enjoyed a solid campaign so far, winning four of their last seven league games, and sit two points above City in the National League South standings.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team and match stats:

  • Hampton & Richmond have conceded 10 goals at home in the league this season – only eight teams have let in fewer on home soil.
  • Chelmsford City are unbeaten in their last six National League South away games (W2, D4).
  • The Beavers have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches against the Clarets.
  • City are undefeated in their last three meetings with Hampton.

Opposition:

After drawing with Robbie Simpson’s Clarets on matchday two of 2024-25, Hampton & Richmond struggled to build on their first point of the season, winning just three of their next 11 league matches.

However, since an impressive 3-1 home victory over promotion-chasing Eastbourne Borough in late October, Alan Julian’s side have been one of the form teams in the league. The Beavers have recorded four wins and two draws in their last seven league matches, climbing two points ahead of City in the standings.

James Roberts leads Hampton’s scoring chart with eight goals in all competitions, while experienced midfielder Jake Gray is second with three strikes.

Recent Chelmsford City signing Bunmi Babajide, who arrived from Hampton & Richmond last month, could face his former club on Saturday. Babajide played against the Clarets in August and scored his only goal for the Beavers in a 3-2 defeat to Worthing that same month.

Babajide was wearing a Beavers shirt when Hampton and City last met back in August

Team news:

Robbie Simpson will hope his squad feels rejuvenated after a 12-day break from action.

Ryan Blackman, Ruaridh Donaldson and Arthur Penney continue to make progress in their recoveries from respective injuries.

Defender Sam Gale has departed the EMJ Community Stadium after being recalled by parent club Gillingham from his loan spell in Essex. Everyone at Chelmsford City thanks Sam for his efforts in a claret shirt.
