Hertford Town V Chelmsford City FC, Pre-season friendly, The Smile IT Stadium, Saturday 13th July 2024, 1:00pm kick off.

The Clarets are back in action just 4 days on from their pre-season opener and are once again away from home taking on Hertford Town at the Smile IT Stadium. Simpson’s men will be looking to get another solid shift under their belts following on from Tuesday night’s game against Sudbury.

The Opposition:

Hertford town was established in 1901 originally by the name Port vale Rovers and play their football at the Smile IT stadium, a stadium which can hold 6500 people. The Hertfordshire side currently play their football in the Southern league division one central, managing to secure a 14th place finish last year, facing a 2-0 loss in their last competitive game of the season. Hertford have been busy in pre season having already played 3 games getting a 4-2 win over Arlessy town, a 2-1 win over Baldock Town and a 1-1 draw against Wembley Fc completing a nice unbeaten pre season run which the clarets will be eager to stifle. This will be the first time Chelmsford has faced The Blues as new signings, trialists and academy prospects look to showcase their abilities to impress manager Robbie Simpson and show what they can bring to the team before the season ahead. Managing Hertford Town is Ben Herd who in his ex-professional footballing career was a youth player at Watford, made 143 appearances for Shrewsbury and 151 appearances at Aldershot Town where he made a name for himself before dropping down into the non-leagues after being plagued with injury; in May 2019 Herd was named Hertford Town manager.

Team news:

It will once again be a mixed bunch from the Clarets as trialists will still be looking to get themselves into the plans of Robbie Simpson ahead of the upcoming season.  The 13 First teamers already signed on for next year will all look to build up some fitness and match sharpness for the upcoming campaign, as the Clarets play their second of eight pre-season fixtures.

How to get there:

Hertford’s train station is Hertford East Station, which is accessible via 2 stops from Chelmsford. Firstly, head to Stratford from Chelmsford before getting the train to Tottenham Hale.
