We are delighted to announce the signing of Defender Ike Orji!
21-year-old Ike Orji joins following his departure from Gillingham. Ike started his career at Chatham Town, as he was part of the squad which gained promotion in the 21/22 season. A move to Gillingham was next on the cards, as he joined the Gills before returning to Chatham on loan. Last season, he picked up National League South experience on loan, with Hemel Hempstead and Welling United. He has been on trial with the Clarets for whole the duration of our pre-season campaign.
Manager Robbie Simpson said: “Ike has done really well this pre-season, he built himself up and put in 2 really really strong performances.
Against Billericay I thought he was excellent but then unfortunately he picked up an injury that week in training, right at the end of training where he had a great session as well and that stalled things a little.
He has gradually got himself back fit now and he played a part on Saturday against Southend and I thought he showed some real promise and looked to be getting back to the levels he had shown at Billericay.
He is only going to go from strength to strength so we are really excited to see Ike agree to join us.
He reminds me very much so of Luke Jenkins last season where he departed a League Two side with a point to prove that they made the wrong decision, just like Luke so he has got the bit between his teeth to go out and prove them wrong.
We are really hopefully that we can be the vehicle for him to go and do that, much like Luke, and in return he can put in some fantastic performances for us, so a big welcome to Ike!”
Welcome to the Clarets Ike!
