We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Joe Rye!

20-year-old Joe Rye joins on loan from National League side Barnet. Rye is a defender who is no stranger to the Clarets, having played for fellow National League South side Worthing since the age of 15. After 39 games and a playoff final with the Rebels, Joe moved to Barnet in the National League, last summer.

Manager Robbie Simpson said: “We’re absolutely delighted to bring Joe to us.

“It’s come a bit out of the blue, although we’ve had a keen interest in Joe for a long time.

“Ever since he played for Worthing against us at our place actually, where that night I thought he gave one of the best individual defensive displays I’ve seen at the level.

“He had a bit of everything, pace, strength, maturity, positioning, toughness on the ball were exceptional, it was one of the best performances I’ve seen from the defender.

“And we’d kept sort of an eye on Joe ever since and actually in the summer, we thought that we could maybe try and get him, but then it was quickly become apparent that he’d be moving up the levels.

“When he went to Barnet, we spoke with Dean Brennan and said how much we liked him and if there was ever an opportunity to get him on loan, then then then we’d love to have that.

“Brennan out of the blue on Monday morning messaged and said that he’s available and he’s keen to come to us and asked ‘do we want to still do it?’

“It was a very quick, swift yes, when a player like Joe comes along, you’ve got to try and act quickly before others get in there before you.

“We’re delighted to bring him in and I can’t wait for him to get settled in the team and then really help us push to where we want to get to!”

Welcome to the Clarets Joe!
