We can confirm that Luke Jenkins has departed the Clarets in order to sign for a side in a higher division, subject to compensation.

Manager Robbie Simpson said: “We can’t thank Luke enough for what he has done for the football club this season.

His story marks another aspect of the club’s identity, similar to Jermaine who we brought from a level below, whereas Luke is another aspect of what we are about, giving players that have been released from leagues above a second chance, and a chance to rebound back up.

It needs total buy in from the player and I am really thankful to Luke that he trusted us in what we were saying to him was true and that we could help him get back up to professional football and listening too us, believing in us when we are telling him little aspects of his game to improve.

Throughout the season he has been immense and deservedly got his accoladies in and England C callup and was included in the team of the season.

We wish him well on his journey and I know he will look back on his time at the Clarets as a pivotal moment in his football career.

Him and his family have always loved everything about the club and they’ll always be welcome back to Melbourne.

He certainly goes on with our well wishes and we look forward to seeing how his career progresses.”

Thank you for all your efforts in a Clarets shirts Luke, and best of luck for the future!
