Chelmsford City v Maidstone United, National League South, EMJ Community Stadium, Monday 27th January 2025, 7:45pm kick-off.
Chelmsford City make a quick return to action when they host Maidstone United on Monday night, in a game both sides will be eager to use as a springboard to get back to winning ways.
The Clarets were defeated by Eastbourne Borough on Saturday and now have the opportunity to bounce back quickly by completing a league double over Maidstone, following their impressive 5-1 victory at the Gallagher Stadium in September.
Since that defeat, George Elokobi’s side have climbed to within one point of the National League South summit, having lost just twice in their previous 21 league games. One of those losses came against Worthing on Saturday.
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…
Team and match stats:
- Maidstone have the best away record in the National League South this season. They have collected 29 points on the road and have suffered only one away loss.
- They also boast the best away defensive record, having conceded just 10 away goals – two fewer than Boreham Wood, who have the second-best away defensive record.
- The Stones have conceded 25 league goals this season, meaning 20% of the goals they’ve let in were scored by Chelmsford City earlier this season.
- George Elokobi’s side have won on their last two visits to Melbourne.

Opposition:
Since that heavy defeat to the Clarets at the Gallagher Stadium, Maidstone United have been in excellent form. The Stones went on an impressive 19-game unbeaten run in the National League South, which came to an end earlier this month after they were defeated by Chesham United. This loss marked Maidstone’s first defeat on the road this season. The Kent club will be hoping their return to away action on Monday can help them get back to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat to Worthing at home on Saturday.
Maidstone’s strong season and away record have been underpinned by their solid defence. They have the second-best defensive record in the league this season and have conceded the fewest goals away from home. Former Claret Ben Brookes has been a key figure in Maidstone’s backline this season, playing every National League South game so far. Should Brookes feature on Monday, it will mark his return to the EMJ Community Stadium. Brookes left Chelmsford City last year following a productive year-and-a-half in Claret, during which he helped the club to back-to-back play-off finishes.
Brookes could be partnered in defence by centre-back Reiss Greenidge. Reiss is the older brother of Chelmsford City forward Jordan Greenidge, who scored in Saturday’s game against Eastbourne. The Greenidge brothers faced off three times last season, though they are yet to play against each other in 2024-25. While Jordan played for Chelmsford City in the reverse fixture of Monday’s game, Reiss did not feature in that match. Given the direct battle they could have with each other given their respective positions, the battle of the Greenidge is one to look out for.
Team news:
Robbie Simpson will look to use all available options in his squad to keep his players fresh, with Monday’s game marking the Clarets’ fourth match in nine days.
Saleem Akanbi and Cameron James were substituted off after requiring treatment during Saturday’s match, and both will be assessed in the build-up to facing Maidstone.
