Welcome to the Clarets, Zech Obiero!
Chelmsford City are delighted to announce the loan signing of winger, who also can function upfront, Zech Obiero. The 18-year-old joins from Leyton Orient and has already made his professional debut for the O’s, when he started against Crawley Town in a 2-0 victory! Last season, he faced the Clarets as he had a loan spell with Cheshunt, who were subsequently relegated at the end of the season. Obiero made 17 appearances for Cheshunt, scoring twice. He scored against Dover Athletic and Bath City, in 3-0 and 2-1 wins.
Manager Robbie Simpson spoke about the signing: “Zech is someone who we have been tracking for a little while now. He first came to our attention when we were preparing to play Cheshunt last season as he was a real standout for them. When we played against them he did not disappoint and was a constant threat to us, on that night.
He featured on the right against us that night, and when I went to watch him again, against Worthing late on in the season, he played as a number 9, and did exceptionally well there. He was up there on his own, really isolated but did ever so well.
For Leyton Orient he has played as a 4, a 6, an 8 and wide left, where he did against us in preseason. He did well against us in that game too.
He’s someone we have been monitoring and, as soon as Leyton Orient were ready to send him out on loan, we were quick to act, and cannot wait for him to get going with us!”
Everyone at Chelmsford City is delighted to welcome Zech Obiero, and we’re all very much looking forward to seeing him in a Chelmsford shirt!
