We are delighted to announce that the Ollie Hopkins’ Memorial Golf Day will be taking place in early July to raise funds for Chelmsford City Football Academy
The President’s Golf Day is set for Friday, 7th July at Braintree Golf Club and has been organised by Jim Culleton and Paul Hopkins in memory of Ollie Hopkins. The funding raised from the day will go to Financially Support those who are in the early stages of the CCFC Development Pathway in the Chelmsford City FC academy, a cause which was close to Ollie’s heart. Paul set up the President’s Day as a legacy to his father, Ollie. Sport was Ollie’s chance to make a life for himself and his family having come from a difficult background. The hope for the funds is to help those in a similar position not have the barriers preventing them from continuing their Footballing Development.
Ollie Hopkins, a former Chelmsford City Player made just shy of 100 appearances for the Clarets in the late 60’s and early 70’s across two spells with the Clarets having previously had a 7 year spell with Barnsley and a 4 year stint at Peterborough United. Ollie joined Brentwood Town in 1967 where he would play for 3 years before making his Clarets return in 1970 when the two sides merged in a more coaching orientated role.
In 1977 Ollie was named Reserves Team Manager before being named First Team Manager in 1978. The Club has since seen the involvement of multiple generations of the Hopkins family, with Ollie’s eldest son Phil playing under his Father for the club and Liam, Ollie’s grandson, who would be involved in the club in the turn of the Millennium. Ollie was named Chelmsford City FC President in September 2009 a role in which he was “very proud to be asked”. Ollie passed in April 2014 aged 78 and his son Paul, who had a period as Club Chairman in the 2000’s, would continue the family legacy after being named President in 2015.
Even if you are not attending the President’s Golf Day, you can donate directly to the fund should you wish.
We would like to thank Jim and Paul for their generosity in donating all the proceeds to the Academy and we wish those who are taking part the very best of luck.
