Anthony Wordsworth spoke to ClaretsTV all about Pre-Season so far and how he’s settling in as a Claret, the full interview can be found below
Anthony, how’s it been coming into the club and starting your first Pre-Season as a Claret?
“I’ve really enjoyed it, obviously a great bunch of lads. I had a slight niggle the first couple of games so I haven’t been able to be involved but to get half an hour against Haringey was quite pleasing. I got through the game in one piece and it felt good.”
You’ve been around the squad for a couple of weeks now, in your new environment, what’s it been like settling in?
“It’s been good, the lads have made me feel really welcome, the first couple of weeks have been more about fitness than anything else although when we go into games we do want to win. Any footballer should have that winning mentality but the most important thing is getting the fitness up. The proper games start now so it’s time to step it up and show Simmo what we’re really about.”
Anthony Wordsworth was announced as a Claret over the off-season bringing a wealth of Footballing experience with him into Robbie Simpson’s side. After missing out on the first couple of games of 2023/24 Pre-Season Anthony can now look forwards to the remaining games and building up in preparations for the first game of the season at home to Farnborough
We’ve got games coming thick and fast against Football League Opposition, what are you personally looking to achieve in those upcoming games?
“As a team, we want to test ourselves against these teams to see where we are at. For me personally, it’ll be to get more minutes Wednesday and more minutes on Friday. I’m really looking forward to getting on the pitch with the lads and showing everyone what I can do.”
You got half an hour today, although somewhat delayed, I would imagine you’re quite glad to get out amongst your new teammates?
“Yeah. We’ve got a lot of good players here and I’ve wanted to get out there and play with them. The first couple of games I’ve seen some good things, some positive signs, and possibly one or two things we need to work on but we’re moving in the right direction and we are looking forward to this run of games coming up against some tough opposition.”
