Chelmsford City is delighted to announce that striker Reece Grant has joined the club after leaving fellow Vanarama National League South outfit Dover Athletic.

Grant, 27, first made his name with a prolific spell of goal-scoring at Heybridge Swifts and then he moved up to the National League South with Braintree Town and was part of the Iron team that won promotion in 2017-18. Reece started both games against the Clarets that season. After scoring goals in the National League, he then had spells with Aldershot and Dagenham & Redbridge. He then moved back to the National League South and has spent most of his recent time in Kent, with spells at Maidstone, Ebbsfleet and Dover. He appeared at the Melbourne Stadium as recently as November when appeared as a late substitute in Dover’s 0-0 draw with the Clarets.

Chelmsford City manager Robbie Simpson commented on his new acquisition, “Adam Drew and I have recently been looking at options to improve the squad and one of those names that we spoke about in the summer as well was Reece Grant. I’ve been in contact with Reece for a few years as I know his brother (West Brom striker Karlan Grant) well as we played together when he was on loan at Cambridge United so we got in contact with Reece recently as we wanted to add goals to our squad. Reece can do that as he has scored goals at this level and the level above. He works his socks off and is a really determined character and he plays on the edge as well which is maybe something we need a bit more of in the squad. He has been part of successful teams in his career and so he knows what it takes to be part of a winning dressing room as he has won promotion with Maidstone and Braintree. He’s desperate to win and he’ll improve us in that regard.

I can’t wait to see him in action and I think he’ll be a real fans favourite because of his attitude and work-rate. I think Reece needs to find his love for the game again and we hope we can provide a successful environment for him to flourish as a fit and firing Reece Grant is a real threat at this level. We know he’s had better financial offers but I’m glad that he feels that this is the right place for him to thrive.”

Reece will be in line to make his debut for the Clarets against his former club Braintree on Boxing Day, and you can buy tickets for that game here!
