Chelmsford City FC V Salisbury FC, National League South, EMJ Community Stadium, Saturday 26th October 2024, 3pm kick-off.
Chelmsford City welcome Salisbury to the EMJ Community Stadium this weekend as both sides play their third match in the space of the week.
Following recent results, the Clarets, the Whites, Hampton & Richmond, and Welling United come into Saturday’s game level on points in the National League South standings, although Brian Dutton’s Salisbury side have played one more match than City.
Robbie Simpson’s men will now aim to pull ahead of the Whites in the league table by recording a win for the first time since beating Eastbourne Borough 4-2 earlier this month.
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…
Team & match stats:
- Salisbury have conceded 13 away goals in the National League South this season, only Enfield Town (18) and Worthing (17) have let in more goals on the road.
- City ran out as the winners in the only game which they have played against Salisbury FC, who were formed in 2014 after the liquidation of Salisbury City. Rod Stringer’s Clarets side beat the Whites 4-0 in the FA Trophy on January 11th 2020.
- Chelmsford City and the original Salisbury, followed by Salisbury City, met 28 times. The Clarets ran out as winners on 10 of these occasions (P28; W10, D8, L10).

Opposition:
Salisbury FC were founded in December 2014 after a consortium of five people purchased the assets of the former Salisbury City. This followed a difficult period for the previous club, which had been liquidated after financial troubles. The new club obtained a lease for the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, which had been unused for a year. Volunteers and fans helped restore the stadium, and on April 28th 2015, Salisbury FC played their first match, which was against AFC Totton.
A little over nine years since the new Salisbury’s first ever match against AFC Totton, the Whites and the Stags met earlier this year in the Southern League Premier South play-off final. Brian Dutton’s side won the dramatic final, which was decided by a penalty shootout, and earned Salisbury FC their third promotion since 2015-16.
The Whites have enjoyed a respectable start to their first season in the sixth tier of English football after winning four and drawing four of their opening 13 National League South games. Dutton will hope the recent addition of Callum Watts to his squad can help his side further consolidate their place in the division. Watts departed the EMJ Community Stadium earlier this month to move closer to home and has since linked up with Dutton’s squad. The midfielder impressed during his time in claret, making 39 league appearances for the club.
Watts made his Salisbury debut in his side’s last away outing against Dorking Wanderers last weekend. Marc White’s side led 2-0 with 87 minutes gone against a 10-men Salisbury side, but let their lead slip when the Whites went 3-2 ahead in the 8th minute of added time. Wanderers levelled the scoreline in the 9th minute of added time, which meant the points were shared between both sides. Robbie Simpson and Brian Dutton may both hope their sides can wrap up a positive result on Saturday without the need for more late dramatics.
Team News:
Arthur Penney will serve the final game of his three-match suspension.
Louis Dunne will be assessed after being forced off with a problem during the first half of Monday’s draw with Hemel Hempstead Town.
Geofrey Okonkwo is continuing to progress in his recovery from a knee injury. Ryan Blackman is set to remain absent.
