Chelmsford City FC can now confirm that Striker, Simeon Jackson, has decided to step back from playing for the club in order to focus his efforts on the Academy and Community outreach of the Football Club.
Jackson joined the club boasting a rich footballing history having played in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Scottish Premiership and across the EFL while also amassing 49 Caps for his National Team Canada scoring 6 times. Simeon is one of the longest-serving players at the club, initially joined in February 2021 making 2 appearances and scoring once before departing to Kings Lynn Town due to the implications of COVID-19 on the Vanarama National League South. Jackson returned to the Clarets in July 2021. Jackson has made 85 Appearances during his time at Chelmsford City FC scoring 28 times and being the club’s Top Goalscorer for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Seasons.
Manager Robbie Simpson shared his thoughts on Simeon’s decision to step back, “Simeon’s been an amazing player for me since I became manager, finishing top Goalscorer in all competitions in the last 2 seasons shows how good he’s been on the pitch and without a doubt off the pitch he’s been a real leader and mentor for the younger players coming through. His work with the academy and in the community helps that and I’m really pleased he is going to continue to do that. I’ve been there that as your body gets older, you sometimes have to reflect on whether you can put yourself through it and push yourself to the maximum again. Simeon’s not totally decided but he certainly for the time being is going to step away from playing and once he has a clearer head he will make a decision on whether he wants to continue playing or not and whether that will be with us or not.”
“We’d have loved to have him as a player again as he is such a good influence and when called upon he’s got the qualities you’d want. We have to respect where his head’s at and we totally understand where his head is at in terms of playing. We wish him all the best away from his duties with the club but he will still be around in the academy and doing his duties in the community where he plays a vital part in what this football club wants to be. A big thank you to him once again for the last few seasons.”
We would like to thank Simeon for his efforts on the field in the last few seasons and we look forward to seeing his work with the Academy and in the Community for the football Club Going forwards
