Monday March 11th 2024 marks 4 years since Robbie Simpson was appointed as the Clarets’ permanent boss!

Simmo arrived initially as a player in the summer of 2019, joining after he departed MK Dons. His reign as manager was at first on an interim basis, after Rod Stringer was sacked. 8 games later, including a 4 games unbeaten run in the last 4, Robbie was handed the job.

Speaking to ClaretsTV after the 4-1 win against Truro, Robbie was asked about his 4 years in charge and said:

“It’s been great!

When I first took over, I’ve mentioned it before, the club was going about a change. A change in philosophy, a change in finances back in the first team. We have built, year on year.

The first couple of years, as it always is with that kind of change, it was tough. Especially with covid, the first year completely was so tough and it was nearly all non football related and purely covid related and putting out fires in terms of that.

The next year was very much what I have expressed as a foundation year where we put the foundations in place to build from and I look back at that year with real fondness actually. We put the structure in place of the football club.

We have got an identity now and we have got young, hungry players who are wanting to develop and better themselves and move on but also at the same time move this club forward.

I am really pleased that we built on that last year, probably surpassing my expectations last season and again they’re surpassing my expectations this year, so far. I reiterate that so far, we need to keep going and striving to be better and better, each day, each game, each week, each training session.

And then, whatever happens we can look ourselves in the mirror and be proud.”

Congratulations to Robbie on 4 years at Chelmsford City Football Club!
