St Albans City v Chelmsford City, National League South, Clarence Park, Tuesday 5th November 2024, 7:45pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City play away from home for the second National League South game in a row when they travel to Clarence Park to face St Albans City on Tuesday night.

Robbie Simpson’s Clarets go into the clash in good away form and on the back of picking up a hard-earned point at Torquay United on Saturday, which saw City come from behind after going two goals down at Plainmoor.

David Noble’s St Albans side have endured a frustrating 2024-25 campaign so far and currently sit in the National League South relegation zone. However, their form has picked up recently and the Saints arrive into Tuesday’s game having tasted defeat in only one of their previous four matches.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team & match stats:

  • St Albans have picked up five points at Clarence Park this season (P7; W1, D2, L4). Only Aveley (4) and Weymouth (3) have earned less points at home.
  • Chelmsford City are unbeaten in their last four National League South away clashes (W2, D2).
  • City’s last win over St Albans came in April 2022. Since then, the Saints have won four of the five competitive clashes between the sides.

Opposition:

David Noble has endured a frustrating start to his second stint as St Albans City Head Coach. Noble returned to Clarence Park in May after departing the club earlier this year to join National League outfit Wealdstone. However, Noble’s stint as Stones boss was short-lived and his departure from Grosvenor Vale in April paved way for his St Albans return.

Up to now in 2024-25, Noble has struggled to replicate the positive results from his first spell in charge which persuaded Wealdstone to pursue his services at the beginning of this year. The Saints are currently five points adrift from safety having completed 14 National League South games this season.

Noble’s side are one of the lowest scoring teams in the division this season. The 42-year-old will hope forward Shaun Jeffers can increase his side’s output in the final third on Tuesday night by continuing his impressive goalscoring record against Chelmsford City. Jeffers, who played at the EMJ Community Stadium over two stints between 2016 and 2020, has recorded 8 goals against his former club in 6 appearances according to Transfermarkt.

Another former Claret in Noble’s squad is Josh Castiglione, who was a key part of City’s record-breaking 23-24 National League South season. Castiglione’s versatility and work rate impressed Clarets supporters last season, and the former Hemel man’s performances have also endeared him to his latest club’s fans. The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the St Albans team this season and was named as the club’s Player of the Month for August and September.

Team News:

Arthur Penney will be assessed by City’s medical team after a shoulder injury forced him off less than two minutes following his introduction in the game against Torquay on Saturday.

Ruaridh Donaldson will continue to be monitored having missed recent matches due to an injury.
