Full time: Truro City 2-1 Chelmsford City

Substitute Tyler Harvey was the difference down in Cornwall as he came on off the bench to score a match-winning brace for Truro.

Harvey struck twice in the dying embers at the Truro City Stadium as Truro ran out 2-1 winners. The Clarets opening the scoring just after the half hour mark, as Osman Foyo nicked the ball high up the pitch before firing his effort past Lavercombe. It was Harvey’s late free kick and header that broke Clarets hearts and sent them home empty handed.

City made the 330-mile trip down to Cornwall as they became the fourth side to visit the newly opened Truro City stadium as the Tinners held their third home fixture in a row. Robbie Simpson made 3 changes to his side that drew 1-1 with Chippenham Town on Monday afternoon. Jake Hyde was recalled to the starting side after suffering a dead leg away to Weston-Super-Mare which ruled him out of Monday’s tie. Osman Foyo was back in from the start and he was joined by fellow loanee Oscar Thorn who was making his debut. Thorn’s arrival was announced on Friday afternoon as he joined on loan from Colchester United.

It was Truro who started hottest as Jaze Kabia looked to continue his red-hot form following a hat trick on Monday against Worthing. He tested Ted Collins early on but the Clarets’ shot stopper stood firm and made a duo of early saves.

Truro continued to test the Clarets as Ryan Law almost snuck in at the backpost to finish. A deep cross from Will Dean invited the wingback to get into the box but he could not direct his effort goalwards.

However, despite the hosts controlling much of the ball, they were the architects of their own downfall. Sanogo picked up the ball on the edge of his own penalty area but he was quickly shrugged off the ball by Osman Foyo who made no mistake from 18-yards-out, sending his effort past Lavercombe.

This lead to a flurry of chances for the Clarets as they looked destined to score a second. It was Foyo once again who came close as he turned Oscar Thorn’s cross just wide of the post, much to Truro’s relief.

Charlie Ruff would come even closer minutes later as Thorn was involved once again. The Colchester loanee ran the length of the pitch on the counter attack, beating 3 Truro players before sending a ball into the box. Ruffs head met it but Truro had scrambled enough players back and his effort was cleared off the line before Hyde’s follow up was wide.

Worrying signs for the Clarets came on the form of injury as midfielder Ryan Blackman hobbled off just before the break. Manager Robbie Simpson provided a brief update in his post-match interview.

With half time been and gone Truro started much like they did in the first half, as this time Sanogo tried his luck but saw his effort curl the wrong side of the post.

However the Clarets hit the hosts on the break and have an unbelievable chance. Freddie Hockey was played through and burst away from Will Dean. His effort beat Lavercombe but went the wrong side of the crossbar as it sailed over.

Truro eventually found the back of the net when Tyler Harvey converted a free kick from the edge of the box, seeing it nestle into the bottom corner.

The hosts could have had 2 in as many minutes but Johnson-Fisher could only send his effort into the arms of Ted Collins.

However there was no mistake second time round as Tyler Harvey was in the right place at the right time to poke the winning goal home.

The Clarets are on the road against midweek, as a trip to the Gallagher Stadium awaits with Maidstone United the challangers.
