We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Dylan Berry, from Norwich City!
Dylan has spent time at Havant & Waterlooville, Macclesfield and Hendon so far this season. He also featured in the National League South last season, playing for St Albans City as they reached the playoff final. Berry featured for the Saints in their 1-0 victory over the Clarets in the playoff eliminator, before they were defeated by Oxford City in the final.
Manager Robbie Simpson said: “Obviously with Henry getting recalled we quickly spoke to the league about our position as it essentially left us with just our goalie coach registered, as our sole keeper.
Since he came in Henry has been our number 1, so it left us in a disadvantaged position.
So we spoke to the league and thankfully they agreed that they did not want us to be disadvantaged by something out of our control and they allowed us to sign another keeper.
When we were looking at options we did not just want another young keeper that had no experience in men’s football because, being honest, we will not have time to embed them and let them settle into men’s football.
We had to have someone who has experienced men’s football previously and ideally at our level and preferably in the playoff scenario.
When we were trying to tick all those boxes, we saw Dylan Berry right at the top of the list, ticking every box.
I’m sure the fan will remember him, unfortunately, from being in goal for St Albans when we lost in the playoffs last year where he had a very good game at our home ground, Melbourne Park.
He went on to have a great semi final as well, against Dartford and made a save or 2 in the penalty shootout.
He has great experience, he is a top young keeper, he is big, kicks well, makes great saves and is just perfect for us to bring in so a big welcome to Dylan and I’m sure he is relishing the opportunity.”
Everyone at Chelmsford City Football Club is delighted to welcome Dylan and looks forward to seeing him play for the Clarets!
