Welling United v Chelmsford City, National League South, Park View Road, Thursday 26th December 2024, 3:00pm kick-off.
Chelmsford City play their final National League South away game of 2024 when they travel across the Dartford Bridge to face Welling United on Boxing Day.
In a key battle in the dugout, Wings boss Rod Stringer will manage against the Clarets for the first time since his three-and-a-half-year stint at the EMJ Community Stadium came to an end in January 2020.
Stringer will know that three points on Boxing Day will lift his current side above his former employers in the league table. City are currently two points and three places ahead of the 19th-placed Wings.
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…
Team and match stats:
- Welling have scored 14 league goals at Park View Road this season.
- Chelmsford City’s away defeat to Hampton & Richmond earlier this month marked their first league loss on the road since August.
- The Clarets have claimed maximum points on their last two visits to Park View Road.
- City did the double over the Wings last season.

Opposition:
Welling United have a number of familiar faces to City fans within their ranks. Former Chelmsford City boss Rod Stringer took charge at Park View Road in January, following the Wings’ 1-0 defeat at the EMJ Community Stadium.
Stringer has stabilised his current employers since arriving at the club. The 49-year-old led the Wings to National League South safety last season. This year, he has built on that success by guiding his team to a position which sees them nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Former Chelmsford City captain Dave Winfield has been a mainstay of Stringer’s backline this season. Winfield linked up with his former manager Stringer earlier this year after departing the EMJ Community Stadium for Park View Road. The centre back has played in all but one of his current club’s league games this season, and is still waiting for his first league goal in red and white.
Team news:
Robbie Simpson confirmed that forward Jordan Greenidge went to hospital following his collision with Weymouth defender Charlie Rowan during Saturday’s game.
Archie Tamplin and Kalvin Kalala were not involved against the Terras after suffering knocks in last week’s win over Waltham Abbey.
Ruaridh Donaldson’s cameo in added time at the weekend marked the Scotsman’s first appearance since October.
Getting there:
Supporters travelling by car to this weekend’s game should know that the journey from the EMJ Community Stadium to Park View Road takes around one hour.
There are no services running into or out of Welling train station on Boxing Day.
The Chelmsford City Supporters Club coach is travelling to Thursday’s game. At the time of writing, there are still seats left on the coach.
