West Essex V Chelmsford City, Essex Senior Cup Third Round, Wadham Lodge Sports Centre, Wednesday 13th November 2024, 7:45pm kick-off.

Chelmsford City kick-off their Essex Senior Cup campaign in the third round of the competition with a trip to West Essex on Wednesday evening.

Essex Senior League outfit West Essex separate City and a place in the fourth round of the competition, in which the winners of Wednesday’s tie will play Billericay Town at New Lodge.

Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…

Team & match stats:

  • City last lifted the Essex Senior Cup in 2016-17.
  • West Essex have never won the competition.

Opposition:

Essex Senior League outfit West Essex have experienced a steady 2024-25 season so far, and currently sit 13th in their division.

West Essex will be pleased that they are the hosts of Wednesday’s game – George Karsa’s side are yet to win a league game away from home this season and have picked up maximum points in four of their nine home games this season.

The Walthamstow-based side entered this season’s Essex Senior Cup in the first round of the competition and have recorded wins against Hullbridge Sports and Harlow Town to set up this week’s tie.

The winners of Wednesday’s game will be rewarded with an away clash against Billericay Town in the next round of the competition.

City visited Billericay in pre-season and will return to New Lodge for a competitive clash should they win against West Essex

Competition rules:

If Wednesday’s game at Wadham Lodge Sports Centre remains level after 90 minutes, then the tie will go straight to penalties, with no extra-time played in any round of the Essex Senior Cup.

Robbie Simpson is allowed to name five substitutes on the bench in this competition, and the manager can introduce all five substitutes if he wishes to do so.

Team News:

Ruaridh Donaldson, Louis Dunne and Ryan Blackman are continuing to progress in their recoveries from respective injuries.

Arthur Penney suffered a shoulder injury earlier this month against Torquay United.

Getting there:

Supporters travelling by car to Wednesday’s game should know that the journey from the EMJ Community Stadium to Wadham Lodge Sports Centre takes around one hour.

The Chelmsford City Supporters Club coach is not travelling to Wednesday’s game.
