Witham Town v Chelmsford City, Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup Final, Simarco Stadium, Tuesday 30th July 2024, 7:45pm kick-off.
The Clarets compete in the long-awaited final of the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup on Tuesday evening when they travel to the Simarco Stadium, home of opposition Witham Town.
Chelmsford booked their place in the final back in March, where three second half goals from Freddie Hockey, Callum Watts and Louis Dunne saw us overcome Heybridge Swifts under the floodlights at Scraley Road.
Before that, the team travelled to North Essex, where they faced Saffron Walden
Town in a thrilling encounter. Callum Jones netted a brace, however a decisive penalty from Lester Ward made the difference as the two teams were locked at 2-2.
Robbie Simpson’s side will certainly be excited by the chance to start the new
season off with some silverware, and this first competitive test for the team is certainly not one to miss, as we look forward to beginning our National League South campaign in a ten day’s time.
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of the game…
Opposition:
Witham have had a promising pre-season thus far, winning five out of their opening six friendlies, and despite finishing 14th in the Isthmian North division last year, they will enter this fixture confident ahead of what is bound to be an exciting game.
Former Clarets manager Garry Kimble will be eager to impress following his first season back at the Simarco Satdium, he returned to the helm for a second stint after being in charge during the most successful period in Witham’s history, in which they were promoted twice in three seasons, and reached the Isthmian Premier Division.
Kimble has extensive experience as a manager, following stints also at Great
Wakering Rovers, Tilbury, Burnham Ramblers, Heybridge Swifts and Bishops
Stortford.
Team News:
Following on from the recent arrivals of Bradley Williams and Jack Turner (pictured below), Chelmsford now enter a matchday with a full named squad for the first time this campaign, however with the league season just around the corner, places may still be up for grabs in the Starting XI against Slough Town on the 10th of August.
