Chelmsford City look to continue their mini unbeaten run in the National League South when they take on Tonbridge Angels on Monday 20th February, 7.45pm kickoff.
The opposition
Tonbridge Angels sit in 10th place after 32 games in the National League South this season. They have won 14, drawn 6 and lost 12, scoring 50 goals and conceding 50 in the league campaign so far which all adds up to 48 league points so far. Tonbridge have been on a good run of late after an up and down period pre-Christmas, and are currently on an 8 game unbeaten run in all competitions.
In terms of players, Tonbridge have long-serving keeper Jonathan Henly in goal. Henly joined the Angels in 2017 is a consistent figure between the sticks for them. In defence, they have another long-serving player in captain Sonny Miles, who has played over 500 games for the club. They also have former Chelmsford City full-back Craig Braham-Barrett who appeared for the Clarets in the 2017-18 season.
In midfield, they have former Charlton man Scott Wagstaff who adds experience to their side. They also have former Southend youngster Lewis Gard as well as former Claret Devonte Aransibia who scored 2 goals in 7 games for the Clarets before leaving for Welling last September.
Up front they have striker Jordan Greenidge who is on loan from fellow National League South club Hemel Hempstead and has a run of goalscoring form, notching 11 in 13 league appearances for the Angels.
Tonbridge’s manager is Jay Saunders. Saunders made his name by guiding Maidstone to the National League and joined Tonbridge last summer from fellow Kent club Margate.
Previous Meetings
Chelmsford are winless against the Angels in their last 4 meetings, with the last victory against them being Robbie Simpson’s first in charge over the Clarets in February 2020 at Melbourne. Joe Turner gave the away side the lead but goals from Leroy Lita, Tom Wraight and a memorable half-way line 3rd from Tom Knowles gave the Clarets the win. The previous victory over Tonbridge at home was a difficult afternoon for Tonbridge as they were beaten 7-1 in April 2014 which led to their eventual relegation that season from the National League South.
Team News
Chelmsford named an unchanged side on Saturday against Dover but won’t be able to this time as striker Reece Grant will be suspended for the next 3 league games after his sending off last Monday against Slough. Harry Lodovica, Ernaldo Krasniqi and Kai Yearn will be assessed to see if they can return as well from their injuries.
