Creative playmaker joins from Hornchurch
Chelmsford City are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Charlie Ruff.
Charlie joins from the Isthmian Premier side, who he joined from Potters Bar in October 2020.
He had a successful spell at the Urchins, winning the FA Trophy in 2021, and then reaching the playoff final last season.
He also played a significant impact in Hornchurch’s FA Trophy final win v Hereford.
After coming on as a substitute in the 59th minute, he scored the equalising goal from close range in the 75th minute and then he produced an outrageous piece of skill on the touchline to play a part in setting up Liam Nash’s 86th minute go-ahead goal in an eventual 3-1 win.
Charlie has also played for Hertford, Broxbourne, and Wingate & Finchley so he has a solid level of experience in the non-league game.
Chelmsford City manager Robbie Simpson spoke about his new signing to www.chelmsfordcityfc.com, “Charlie is a player we like and he played for Hornchurch last year, so Adam Drew knows him really well from that level.”
“His numbers in terms of goals and assists are great, it’s almost a 1-to-1 ratio in terms of goal involvements to starts so that’s something we were really looking to rectify in terms of last season.
“He came in for the first day back on Saturday and he didn’t have to join in training but he wanted to so that speaks volumes. He wants to test himself at a higher level and he wanted that to be with Chelmsford so we’re really pleased to get this deal over the line reasonably quickly.
“We’re delighted to have him at the club and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
All at Chelmsford City wish Charlie the best of luck for the upcoming season.
