Welcome back to the Clarets Ody Alfa!
Ody joined the Clarets last season on loan from Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in February 2023. He had played against the Clarets already, having made a substitute appearance for Aldershot, when the Clarets beat them 2-0 in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. He went on to make 13 appearances in all competitions, notching up 3 goals. Sadly, an injury in early April ruled him out, meaning we did not see him in a Claret shirt again. The 24-year-old departed QPR following the end of last season, but has been on the road to recovery following that injury.
Manager Robbie Simpson spoke about the signing: “Obviously the opportunity to sign Ody has come about and when the opportunity comes you can’t really say no. Especially when he is someone that we have wanted to sign since the end of last season, or even since he got injured before the end of the season.
When he picked up that injury last season, it was a big blow to us. We took a big dent in our promotion hopes because he came in and was so good. He was that good for us, he completely changed the way and the style that we played last year. He was one of the catalyst for us in terms of scoring more goals, and there is no doubt about that, despite him not scoring or assisting as many as he’d liked. He definitely contributed to the way we played and the attacking threat we had which lead to more goals.
We’re absolutely delighted to have Ody back. He’s been injured a long time so we’re going to have to get him up to speed, which we are going to do as quickly as we can but in the safest way we can. The last thing that we want is for him to reinjure himself.
We’re really looking forward to having Ody back with us. He’s been training and playing matches with QPR under 23s so he’s ready now and we feel as if we’re going to be a great environment for him to thrive and get his career back on track.”
Everyone at Chelmsford City is delighted to welcome back Ody Alfa, and we’re all very much looking forward to seeing him back in a Chelmsford shirt!
