Chelmsford City Football Club can now confirm that Forward, Reggie Gregory, has joined Essex Senior League side Coggeshall Town FC on a Youth Loan.

Gregory, 19, is a product of the club’s successful academy side. In terms of his first-team involvement, he became the club’s second youngest player when he made his debut as a half-time substitute against Chippenham in November 2020 when he was just 16. He then joined Brightlingsea on loan, scoring against Folkestone in the Isthmian Premier.

Gregory has made 12 appearances for the first team, scoring his first goal for the club last December away against Concord Rangers, which won the club’s goal of the season competition in 2021/22. Gregory made his first start for the club against Bath in January this year, but injury hampered his minutes towards the end of last season. Reggie has been out on loan and gained further experience at Step 4 having spent last season with Hullbridge Sports FC.

Manager Robbie Simpson commented “Reggie’s had a tough couple of years with injuries really and he’s now back fit despite picking up a little injury at the back end of Pre-Season. The best thing for Reggie now is to get back to playing week in, week out in Men’s Football, getting that robustness in his body so that he can play weekly without picking up these injuries. Injuries are part and parcel of the game but particularly for young lads when they first step into playing regular men’s football. It’s really important first and foremost we get that into Reggie and we get that robustness into him. We’d like Reggie to be playing as high as possible but we’ve got to not rush things with Reggie. Effectively he’s had a really stop-start year or two, so we need to be a bit careful with him and progress him at the right times because we feel like he’s got a big future at this football club and there’s no need to rush it. We’ve got a plan now for Reggie that we hope is going to work and in the future, we see him as a part of the Men’s First Team at Chelmsford and this is just the first step towards that post-academy. We’re really looking forward to Reggie going out to Coggeshall and doing well for them and getting some games and then progress from there”

We wish Reggie the best of luck for his Loan at Coggeshall Town and look forward to seeing his success with the SeedGrowers.
