The club formed in 1899 have called Plainmoor home since 1921. With a capacity of 6,500, there have been high attendances. Noticeably, Truro, who have been promoted this season, took 2,760 away fans to a national league south fan in 2019. The ground has changed, but has still been Torquay’s home for 102 years.

MOST RECENT MEETING

Torquay United 3-1 Chelmsford City (2nd April 2019) – In the season where Torquay gained promotion back to the National League, the Clarets fell victim to one of their impressive performances. Connor Lemonheigh-Evans had given them the lead before Lamar Reynolds pulled the Clarets level. However, After half time Torquay showed class as Jamie Reid and Jake Andrews goals secured a dominant win.

A FEW CLUB LINKS

A player who has played for both sides is Jazzi Barnum-Bobb. The current Clarets player is a Saint Vincent and the Grenadines international and has had 2 spells in Essex. He played for the Clarets after his loan spell with Torquay, where he played just 7 times. In his first spell, he played 31 times for the Clarets, then moved to Wrexham. His second spell has him with 36 appearances so far (league).

THE MANAGER

An illustrious career, Gary Johnson has been a manager since 1986 and managed Torquay since 2018. He has spent time coaching Yeovil, Bristol City, Peterborough as well as Lativa’s national team. He has overseen bot promotion and relegation at Plainmoor.

2022-23 SEASON

Agonisingly, Torquay finished 21st just 2 points away from safety, in the National League. Arguably been the best of the relegated sides, they were 8 points ahead of Yeovil and nearly doubled Maidstone’s points tally of 25.
