Chelmsford City Football Club are delighted to announce that Goalkeeper, Jacob Marsden, has committed to the club and is undertaking a new Role with the Clarets

Marsden joined the club in September 2020 and has gone on to make 46 appearances for the Clarets including 15 last campaign. Marsden has played an important role during his time with the Clarets while producing some excellent performances along the way and he will now undertake the role of Goalkeeping Coach alongside playing for the Clarets.

Manager Robbie Simpson spoke on Jacob agreeing to remain with the Clarets and also the new role that he would be undertaking “Jacob has agreed to stay on as a player but also move into the coaching side, so he will be a Player but also our Goalkeeping Coach next season. Jacob really epitomised everything about our togetherness last season. First of all whenever he played, he was excellent and showed what a good Goalkeeper he can be at this level and secondly, when he didn’t play he showed everything you’d want in a squad member. He was supportive of the loan Goalkeepers that came in, pushed them to be better, encouraged them, got around them when they made a mistake and that wasn’t just the keepers either that was for every single player. He was a real leader in the dressing room.”

“When Danny Clare was away, he stepped into that role really well which was a big part in us offering the coaching role to him even though he’s so young, he showed real maturity when he did step in for Danny Clare on those occasions. With the model that we want to go with, with two goalkeepers and one of them being a coach it was a no-brainer for us to speak to Jacob first and foremost and offer him the deal. We’re delighted that he’s agreed to do so.”

Jacob shared his thoughts on committing to the club and the exciting prospect of the new role “I’m delighted to have agreed to stay at the club. In the past 2 years, since I joined, I have been given some great memories both on and off the pitch and I look forward to making even more! This is a great club filled with top people so I’m excited for the season ahead with all the progress that’s been made at the club and hoping we can do that again this year with the support from all the fans that I’ve had from day one! Also in a new role alongside playing that Simmo, Spills and Drewy have given me the opportunity to do, I can’t wait to meet up with all the boys come pre-season! I also want to thank Dan for the past 2 years, a great coach and friend with his support and Goalkeeping expertise has been invaluable to me. UP THE CLARETS! See you all soon”

We are delighted that Jacob has chosen to remain with the Clarets and look forward to seeing him back next season in his new role as well as playing for the club.
