Welcome back to the Clarets, Henry Ochieng!

Henry Ochieng returns to the club, following his departure from Aldershot Town. He joined the Clarets in July 2022, moving from fellow Essex side Billericay Town. Between August and February in the 22/23 season, Henry made 36 appearances for the Clarets, scoring 2 goals. One goal came against Cheshunt, before a week later he scored in the FA Cup against Aldershot Town. Come February, Aldershot made a 7 day approach and Henry made the step up. After 11 appearances for the Shots, Henry departed last week. Previously, he has featured for Kenya’s Under 23 side, but is yet to make a full international debut.

Manager Robbie Simpson spoke about the signing: “Obviously we saw the news that Henry had left Aldershot last week. Henry called us before we could call him, which we were planning on to see his situation, and he expressed a desire to come back. That is something that you can’t ignore, when someone has an affiliation for a football club, their passion to want to play for that badge then shines through onto the pitch.

Henry was amazing for us last season, in every way both on, and off, the pitch. When he did not play, he epitomised everything in terms of our group together, and everything that was good about that.

On the pitch, he had some outstanding performances. The first to spring to mind was Wealdstone at home in the FA Trophy and he was the best player on the pitch on that day. The Aldershot game in the FA Cup as well, where he scored a goal and evidently caught their eye too. They monitored him throughout the season and subsequently, he went higher to play full time football.

He left in the right way as, despite the 7 day approach coming in from Aldershot, he still expressed a desire to play for the football club in that moment and gave everything when he did. There was no thinking about not putting it all in because he was getting a move to a level above.

That just showed the character that he is and they are the type of characters that bring you success, and that we want at our football club. So, we are absolutely delighted to bring Henry Ochieng back to this football club and hopefully he will pick up where he left off.”

Everyone at Chelmsford City is delighted to welcome back Henry Ochieng, and we’re all very much looking forward to seeing him back in a Chelmsford shirt!
