We are delighted to announce the signing of Saleem Akanbi!
20-year-old Saleem Akanbi joins the Clarets following a spell with Hemel Hempstead. Akanbi plays upfront and did so for Cambridge United before his departure over the summer. During his time with Cambridge Akanbi played on loan at Aveley and Concord Rangers. His spell at Hemel saw him score a worldie against Dorking, as well as scoring against the Clarets.
Manager Robbie Simpson said: “With some loan players being recalled in forward areas, we were quick to try and replace them, Saleem is someone we’ve known about for a while, he spent most of pre-season with Sutton and did really well there.
“And then he actually came training with us for a bit and we really liked him, but Hemel came in and offered him a really good deal that he couldn’t turn down.
“He performed really well for them, he only started, I think, three games, but came on in most the rest and he scored a couple of goals.
“One in particular, a really good goal away at Dorking, and then obviously scored against us as well and in that initial 20-minute period against Hemel, I thought he was electric and really showed what he’s about.
“We hope to get more of that out of him for a longer period and longer periods within games, He’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick, athletic, got a good touch, real desire to score goals.
“That’s the reason why it’s really exciting to bring him to us and hopefully he can hit the ground running.”
Welcome to the Clarets Saleem!
