SIMPSON SWOOPS MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD
Robbie Simpson has been awarded the Vanarama National League South Manager of the Month award for January. It was a great month, playing 5 league games and extending an unbeaten run.
The Month started with a New Years Day Derby, as Braintree Town visited the Melbourne Community Stadium. After a 3-0 victory away on Boxing Day, Braintree were looking for revenge but once again fell to a 3-0 defeat, despite Dave Winfield receiving a red card. Simpson describe the victory as ‘another incredible, incredible performance from my players’, as that made it 3 league wins in a row.
Next time out, a visit to Worthing came. A highly anticipated fixture, with both sides in great form and battling at the right end of the table. An electric start saw us race into an early lead, and take 3 points home after a 3-2 victory. After the game, Robbie said ‘I was nervous, but we got it right, just. We got it right most of the time today.’
Following a defeat in the FA Trophy, as well as a postponement for the scheduled fixture against Farnborough, another home game came with Welling United the challengers. A 1-goal-game was decided through a Samir Carruthers penalty, with both goalkeepers pulling off good saves at either end. ‘I’m really pleased’ said Simpson following the game, ‘we have to make sure that we grind out results.’
For a final time in the month, the Clarets were on the road, visiting Hampton & Richmond Borough. Another team who were at the right end of the table, it was once again a close fought game. Charlie Ruff’s header was the difference, as Chelmsford made it 6 league wins in row. Robbie said ‘I’m so pleased, today is up there with one of the best wins of my managerial career.’
The final fixture of the month was a visit of Weston Super Mare. A great strike from Ody Alfa saw the Clarets take the lead and keep it until very late on. However, they were denied a perfect month, as Weston struck late. Still, an unbeaten month for the Clarets. ‘It’s always gutting when you concede a late goal to take those points away from you, so a real gut-wrenching feeling now’, Simpson concluded.
A great month for the Clarets, who end in it 3rd position. To go with that, Chelmsford sit top of the away form table, following 2 away victories in January.
Congratulations Robbie on a fantastic month!
