Chelmsford City Football Club are delighted to announce that Freddie Hockey has agreed a deal to stay with the Clarets

Hockey established himself as a key part of Robbie Simpson’s first team set-up last campaign playing 18 times scoring twice including his first league Goal for the Clarets against Worthing in March 2023. He continued to play a part in the Academy for the Clarets last season, scoring 6 goals in 6 appearances. Having also previously had loan spells at Step 3 and Step 4, Hockey has matured his game and become a dependable asset for the Clarets’ play off push last season.

Manager Robbie Simpson spoke on Freddie Hockey signing a new deal to keep him with the Clarets “Freddie is a huge success story for us and everything that this club wants to be. He’s the one that when we first launched the academy, he’s the one that we recruited in that first year as a ‘First Year’. We inherited some second years such as Reggie and Anisius but we recruited Freddie in that first year of the Academy and he’s just gone from strength to strength really and in terms of the Pathway he’s played in the Reserves, he’s gone on loan to Step 4 and to Step 3 and when he eventually came back to us towards the back end of last season we could really see the benefit in that pathway because he looked like he was ready. If it wasn’t for a bad knee injury, he might well have played a bit more of a bigger part come the real end of the season.”

“We’re delighted that Freddie has signed a multi-year deal, you’ve got to remember he’s still only just about to turn 18. We’re delighted that he’s committed, he’s fully committed to the club and everything that the club is about and we’re really excited to see what Freddie can do next year and the years beyond that. We feel like he could be a real gem.”

We congratulate Freddie on signing his deal to remain with the Clarets and look forward to seeing him back in Pre-Season.
