Chelmsford City Football Club are delighted to announce that, Club Captain, Dave Winfield has committed to remaining with the Clarets

Winfield, who is in his second spell at the club having re-joined from Romford in July 2021 has made 78 appearances during his time in Chelmsford. The defender made 45 appearances in all competitions last campaign for the club, playing a pivotal role at the heart of the Clarets defence. Dave has played a key role in his time at the club being a leader on and off the pitch and constantly playing with his heart on his sleeve.

Manager Robbie Simpson spoke on the importance of Winfield re-signing for the Clarets, “We’re delighted that Dave has chosen to stay with us for next year. After the season we had, not only Dave but a lot of our players have had interest and without a doubt Dave’s been offered very good deals elsewhere, so we are absolutely delighted he’s chosen to stay with us. I think that his heart’s here now, he’s very much a part of the project that we’ve got going on.”

“When he first re-signed and became our Club Captain, he spoke about the project we’ve got here and how much he believes in it and how much he wants to be part of it. I think he’s played a big part in the progression and the development of not only the team on the pitch but also played a massive part in building the culture off the pitch. He’s the leader, he runs the dressing room essentially and he does it exceptionally well. He finds a fantastic balance in that group between making sure they all have fun, enjoy each others company and enjoy playing and fighting for each other. But also when it’s time to be serious and when it’s time to go to work, there’s nobody better than Dave that finds that balance in the dressing room. ”

“Obviously his performances on the pitch go without saying, he’s an absolute colossus, he will run through brick walls for you, will play through injuries for you when you need him to. We’re delighted he’s agreed to stay!”

Dave Winfield also expressed his thoughts about signing on for another season “I am delighted to be signing for another year. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the football club for an amazing season 22/23, being a part of it was fantastic and I enjoyed every minute. Thank you to the fans for their continued support- you are an important part of what we do and are the back bone of the success of this great football club. I have been flattered by the interest I have had this summer from other clubs, having said that, I am as committed to this football club, despite the challenges I face due to my geographical location, as the support the football club has given me. I am excited for the season to come, let’s get together once again to try and build on that momentum in the upcoming campaign.
Up the clarets!”

We look forward to seeing Dave back leading the boys out on Matchdays and are delighted to see him staying at the club.
