Chelmsford City FC are delighted to announce that Midfielder and our 23/24 top goal scorer, Charlie Ruff, has agreed a deal to see him continue to play his football with the Clarets into the 2024/25 Season!
Manger Robbie Simpson said: “Obviously Charlie had an amazing season and got himself into the England C contingency squad at the end of the season and quite rightly was in the team of the season – I’m pretty much certain he would have been a unanimous choice from all the other managers and when you have got a goal scorer you try and do your best to keep hold of them.
Charlie is not just a goal scorer, he has got a number of assists this season as well and he has been a bit of a talisman for us.
We were both hurting at the end of the season of course and, the fact that he did so well, he undoubtly had lots of other offers from many different clubs at our level and perhaps the league above but I think what happened when he left last year and then him being desperate to come back, plus how well everyone has welcomed him back to the football club and got the best out of him.
He probably had his best season ever last year and he wants to improve on that next year and feels we are the place to do it.
We could not be happier to keep Charlie and we are super proud of him and the season as well as the maturity that he has shown in developing, and long may that continue.
We are just super happy to keep Charlie at this football club because it has not been easy and he has had to make some tough decisions so fair play and full credit to him.”
We look forward to seeing Charlie back out on the pitch in a Claret shirt for the upcoming campaign as well as being back out with the squad at the start of Pre-Season!
