Central defender Ade Oluwo has agreed to extend his stay with Chelmsford City for the upcoming 2022/23 Vanarama National League South season.

Chelmsford City is delighted to announce that last year’s Supporters’ Club Player of the Season, Adebola Oluwo, has agreed terms for next season.

Oluwo has had a breakthrough season at the heart of the Clarets defence, marshalling a back-line that conceded in the league the same amount of goals as both playoff finalists, Dorking Wanderers and Ebbsfleet United.

The defender started his career with Bromley’s U18s and also featured for Tower Hamlets and Fisher, before a successful trial for the Clarets during pre-season ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Ade has played 58 games for the Clarets to date and has also notched up 3 goals from central defence, with his last being in the 1-1 draw against Tonbridge in April.

A delighted City manager Robbie Simpson said to chelmsfordcityfc.com “as soon as the season finished retaining Ade has been my number one priority.

“He was quite rightly named Player of the Season for us. He’s got all of the attributes that you want in a defender and I truly believe that Adebola will become a professional footballer.

“His development from coming to a trial game with us from Fisher to now has just been phenomenal and that’s down to the character that he is and the hunger & desire he has to become a professional.

“We’re really thankful to Ade for agreeing and believing that we’re in the best position to help him and obviously he’s going to be helping us along the way.

“Dave [Winfield] and Ade for the games they played together looked really solid. We had one of the best defences in the league, so it was key for us to try and keep that as much as possible and build on our attacking threat with recruitment.

“We’ve worked hard over the last three weeks to get him to agree to stay with us, so we’re absolutely delighted and cannot wait to see Ade put on a Claret shirt again.

“I’m really happy to agree terms for next season.” added Ade Oluwo.

“I feel I have really improved here over the last year or so and want to continue to do so and ultimately play as high as I can. The club and the fans have been amazing with me and I already can’t wait to get going again.”
